Privacy Policy
This site collects as little as it can. Here is exactly what is kept, for how long, and why. Last updated October 20, 2026.
Information We Collect
JRBYG does not ask for your name, email address, nationality, or any account. There is no login and no newsletter signup on this site. The small amounts of data described below are collected for three purposes: understanding which pages are useful, reading the messages you choose to send, and keeping the site free of spam.
One-Question Visitor Survey
Each Q&A page starts with one optional question about where you are in your Japan journey. If you answer, we store the date, the page, your choice, and, if you arrived from a YouTube link, the video's identifier from the link. Nothing else is stored: no IP address, no device identifier, no cookie.
To avoid asking you twice, your browser remembers locally that you answered on that page. That note stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser storage removes it.
Anonymous Website Analytics
We count page views in two ways, both without identifying you. First, when a page loads, the site sends us the date, the page path, and the campaign tags from the link you clicked (for example, which Short brought you here). Second, we may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-focused service that does not use cookies or track individuals across sites. Neither method stores your IP address with the records we keep.
Contact Form Messages
When you send a message, we store the date, the category you picked, and the text of the message. The form has no field for your name or email, and we ask you not to type them into the message. Messages are stored so the JRBYG team can read them and may also be forwarded to the team's mailbox. We cannot reply individually because we do not collect contact details.
To block automated spam, the form may use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a real person is sending without showing a puzzle in most cases. Turnstile is operated by Cloudflare under its own privacy terms.
Cookies and Third-Party Services
- Cookies: this site sets no cookies of its own.
- YouTube embeds: some pages include JRBYG Shorts. The player is loaded only after you press play, and it uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Once you press play, YouTube (Google) may collect data under its own privacy policy. Thumbnail images are loaded from YouTube's image servers.
- Hosting: the site is served through Cloudflare, which processes connection data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect against abuse, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Outbound links: links to YouTube, Instagram, Substack, and official government sites take you to services with their own policies.
Data Retention
Survey answers and page-view counts are kept as aggregate statistics and may be retained indefinitely, since they contain nothing that identifies you. Contact messages are kept for up to 12 months after they are read, then deleted, unless a message is needed longer to fix a reported problem.
Policy Updates
If we add a feature that changes what is collected, this page will be updated before the change goes live, and the date at the top will change. Questions about this policy can be sent through the contact form.
